Probate is the legal process of administering someone's estate after their death and resolving claims on their property, then distributing assets to the heirs of the decedent. All matters pertaining to the estate are filed with the Probate Court and subject to the Court’s supervision. An individual's estate may pass testate (with a will) or intestate (without a will) through the Probate Court system.
